Madrid’s African-American music festival

Over the coming weeks, Madrid hosts the ninth edition of its ‘Madrid es Negro‘ festival dedicated to a range of African-American music.

The event is presented on 31 January in the FNAC Callao branch with a free performance entitled ‘Ten years with Michael Jackson‘ by the Gospel Factory (6pm).

The following night, the festival’s opening party at the Maderfaker Club features the Madrid es Negro DJs in session plus there are free CDs for those who are first through the door (from 11pm).

A variety of musical acts are on the programme during the festival run including The Midnight Cannonball Blues Orchestra, Susana Ruiz, who pays tribute to Billie Holiday, and the fusion sounds of the Africa G Project.

In addition, organisers have planned a kids’ workshop where participants can learn how to dance like Michael Jackson.
