Barcelona’s ‘Spanish Village’ gets in festive mood

Poble Espanyol, the unique cultural ‘Spanish Village‘ venue in Barcelona that was created in 1929 and features traditional architecture from around Spain, starts its Christmas celebrations this week with the opening of ‘Nadal al Poble‘.

This annual events see the Spanish Village fill with numerous seasonal activities and events that include live music shows and a Christmas market with a range of decorations and gifts like food and craft items.

You can also sample traditional Catalan Christmas dishes such as escudella soup with pasta shells and experience typical customs of the season including the caga tió (the pooping log) and living nativities (pessebres vivents), where people from local towns dress up to act out scenes from the Christmas story.

There’s fun for all ages including workshops, treasure hunts, performances and screenings of short Christmas films courtesy of the Andorra Kids’ Film Festival.

Younger family members will want to visit the House of Father Christmas and The Three Wise Men, where they can deliver their present lists to these very important people. Finally, there’s also the chance to hang your hopes and wishes for the season on the Christmas Wish Tree.
