Three dead, 15 injured, after falling into rough seas on island of Tenerife

Three people lost their lives and another 15 were left injured on Saturday, in separate accidents caused by rough seas on the Spanish island of Tenerife (Canary Islands), according to local emergency services.

In the northern municipality of La Guancha, a rescue helicopter airlifted a man who had fallen into the sea, but he was later pronounced dead on arrival at hospital, emergency officials reported.

Earlier that day, another man was discovered floating in the water at El Cabezo beach in the south of the island. Despite efforts by lifeguards and medical staff to revive him, he was declared dead at the scene.

In a third incident, a large wave at a pier in Puerto de la Cruz, also in northern Tenerife, swept 10 people into the ocean. Police officers and bystanders managed to rescue everyone, but one woman suffered a heart attack and could not be resuscitated. Three others sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital.

Authorities said the Canary Islands remain under alert for dangerous coastal conditions.
