FC Barcelona has confirmed that they will continue playing their home matches at the Olympic Stadium Lluís Companys for the remainder of the season, while renovations on the Camp Nou progress.
Initially, the La Liga leaders had aimed to return to their stadium before the season’s end, having already postponed their plans to play at the newly named Spotify Camp Nou before the close of 2024.
In an email to club members on Thursday, Barcelona informed them that tickets were available for the remaining La Liga and Champions League matches at the temporary Olympic Stadium, where the team has been based since the start of the 2023-24 season.
Hansi Flick’s squad still has seven La Liga home fixtures left at the Olympic Stadium, along with the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals and a potential semi-final should they advance.
When the Camp Nou re-opens, it is expected to have an initial capacity of over 60,000, with the full expansion set to accommodate 105,000 spectators upon completion, which is scheduled for the summer of 2026.
Renovation work on the stadium began in June 2023 but encountered delays due to permit issues and concerns over working conditions, among other challenges.
Earlier in March this year, local media outlets had reported that another delay had affected the construction works, pushing back the club’s return to its iconic home some months.
At the time, reports said that Barça would not return to their stadium until some time around November 2025. Yet, the club quickly said that they maintained their intention to play a game at their famous home ground before the end of the 2024/25 campaign.
The club also released some photos (main image) after installing 39,000 blue and maroon coloured seats to show that construction works were on track.
