The Catalan government has announced that it will be lifting one of the last remaining restrictions in place to combat the spread of Covid-19.
On Friday 11 February, nightclubs will be allowed to re-open in Catalonia, government spokeswoman Patrícia Plaja announced on Tuesday, without Covid restrictions of opening hours or capacity limits.
Since 24 December, bars and music bars have been allowed to stay open across Catalonia only until 1am, as marked by the current regulations of the Catalan government. Nightclubs have remain closed, however.
From 11 February, all nightlife – nightclubs, bars and music bars – will be allowed to open without any Covid restrictions in place. There will no longer be capacity or opening hour restrictions dictated by the pandemic, and nor will there be any requirement to show proof of vaccination. The government has said that the lifting of that measure is in line with the changes made on Friday 28 January for other establishments.
‘Covid-19 figures are still high, but the outbreak risk is decreasing as well as the transmission rate,’ Plaja said during the press conference following Tuesday’s meeting of the Catalan cabinet.
Catalonia had also imposed a night curfew from 1am-6am for towns and cities that had high incidence rates. It first came into force on Christmas Eve until Friday 7 January, and was then extended for 14 days. It ended at midnight on Thursday 20 January.
