Andalusia now has lowest number of Covid hospital patients since last summer

Latest: Coronavirus in Spain figures (2 June)

Despite a spike in cases on Saturday 29 May, the number of patients hospitalised in Andalusia with Covid has now reached the lowest level since last summer.

Saturday’s data also saw the accumulated incidence rate rise slightly, by one point to 170, and showed an increase of 200 new cases on the previous week.

Although this spike broke the region’s downward trend, the fact that the decline has been sustained for over a month means that the region now has half as many hospitalised as it did at the peak of the fourth wave at the end of April.

The number of patients in intensive care units due to Covid has also returned to a downward trend after Saturday’s slight spike, reducing from 220 on Saturday to 211 on Sunday.

The decrease in hospital admissions due to Covid is likely to be linked to the progress of the region’s vaccination programme which is now heading towards five million doses administered, according to the region’s Department of Health and Families. ALSO READ: Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain
