BCN’s Fundación MAPFRE focuses on US photographer

Barcelona’s Fundación MAPFRE opens a new exhibition featuring the work of US photographer Berenice Abbott (1898-1991) on 20 February.

The show is entitled ‘Berenice Abbott. Portraits of Modernity. Pioneer, modern, fearless’, summing up the artistic career of this woman who was a cultural bridge between Paris and New York City – between the developing avant-garde movement of the Old Continent and the burgeoning artistic and intellectual scene on the East Coast of the USA in the 1920s and 1930s.

The exhibition, which is divided into three thematic sections, includes almost 200 photographs by Abbott, as well as 11 images by French documentary photographer Eugène Atget, which Abbott printed herself at the end of the 1950s.
