Coronavirus in Spain (22 Oct) – third consecutive rise in incidence rate

CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Friday 22 October for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 4,997,732. This is an overall increase of 2,556 against the figure released on Thursday, of which 1,212 have been registered in the past 24 hours.

Thursday had seen an overall increase of 1,881 over Wednesday, of which 975 were registered in 24 hours

The overall incidence rate across Spain has risen by one point to 44.49 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. It has now increased slightly for three consecutive days. On Thursday it was 43.26 and Wednesday 43.15. The region with the lowest incidence rate is Galicia at 14. It is at its highest in the Basque Country at 69. There have now been 21,112 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 4,997,732. The figure for the past 7 days is 11,132

There are currently 1,730 people hospitalised for Covid-19 in Spain (previously 1,775), representing a 1.41% occupation of hospital beds across Spain (1.45%). 435 are in intensive care (434), representing 4.78% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid patients across Spain (4.76%).

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Friday 22 Oct is now 87,132 – an increase of 30 since Thursday.

Of the 1,212 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours (and current incidence rate) on Friday 22 Oct, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 275 in Madrid (current incidence rate: 48)
  • 164 in Catalonia (59)
  • 153 in Castilla y León (45)
  • 142 in the Basque Country (69)
  • 76 in Aragón (59)
  • 75 in the Canary Islands (38)
  • 69 in the Valencia Region (43)
  • 45 in Murcia (55)
  • 41 in Andalusia (30)
  • 37 in Asturias (24)
  • 34 in the Balearic Islands (61)
  • 27 in Navarra (61)
  • 26 in Extremadura (35)
  • 17 in Cantabria (46)
  • 16 in Galicia (14)
  • 9 in La Rioja (27)
  • 1 in Castilla La Mancha (36)
  • in Ceuta (21)
  • 0 in Melilla (32)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain
