Red card chaos as Zaragoza goalkeeper’s punch ignites mass brawl

Real Zaragoza goalkeeper Esteban Andrada is facing a lengthy suspension after punching a Huesca player, despite already having been sent off during a heated second-tier clash in Spanish football.

The 35-year-old Argentina international was initially dismissed on Sunday after pushing Jorge Pulido to the ground. However, the situation escalated moments later when Andrada, visibly furious, ran back towards Pulido and struck him in the face, triggering a mass confrontation during stoppage time of the derby.

The fallout saw further dismissals, with Huesca goalkeeper Dani Jiménez and Zaragoza defender Dani Tasende also shown red cards, as the hosts held on to secure a 1-0 victory.

Andrada, currently on loan from Mexican club Monterrey, now risks a suspension of up to 12 matches for the punch, in addition to the standard one-game ban for his original sending-off.

‘We witnessed scenes unbecoming of this sport and which should never have occurred,’ said Zaragoza in a statement.

‘The club strongly condemns what happened in that moment, which has unacceptably tarnished a football match of special importance for our region, something that is unacceptable.’

‘Regarding our player Esteban Andrada, the club will analyse the events that occurred and take the appropriate disciplinary measures,’ the club said.

Both Zaragoza and Huesca remain in the relegation zone as they battle to avoid dropping into Spain’s third tier.
