Catalan police launch maritime search unit for missing British rugby player, Levi Davis

The Catalan police, the Mossos d’Esquadra, have launched a maritime missing person unit to search for Levi Davis, a British rugby player who was last seen in a pub in Barcelona in late October.

‘We continue to investigate the disappearance of a man in Barcelona on 29 October,’ the Mossos stated in a tweet [see below], without naming the man. ‘We are activating the Maritime Police and the Aquatic Unit to search the port of Barcelona and the Llobregat Delta. The case remains open.’

In late November, the Mossos had confirmed that they’d found the passport of the missing rugby player in the vicinity of Barcelona port, as first reported in the British media.

Since then, the investigation has been on-going, after Davis was last seen on CCTV leaving The Old Irish Pub on La Rambla boulevard in central Barcelona, on 29 October. He had reportedly also sent a video to his mother, Julie, claiming that his life was in danger and that he was being blackmailed by a criminal organisation.

The professional rugby player for Worthing Raiders RFC had been traveling across Europe before he went missing. On the day of the disappearance, he had taken a ferry from Ibiza to the Catalan city and after arriving visited the bar where he was last seen.
