Security staff at Barcelona airport call indefinite strike from 10 August

Security staff at Barcelona airport have called an indefinite strike starting from 10 August, from Thursday to Monday, and divided into three shifts.

The strike was announced on Monday by the Central Sindical Independiente y de Funcionarios (CSIF), the majority union in the company I-SEC Aviation Security, managing security guards at El Prat-Josep Tarradellas Airport in Barcelona.

Staff will stop working from 4am – 7am, from 9am – 11am, and from 4pm – 8pm.

Unions called the strike in a complaint over the abuse of authority and for ‘breaking agreements’ reached with the I-SEC company. Workers claim that the business is not considering the 10 minutes break per hour that staff have, nor the ‘family conciliation’.

Workers are also asking the company to pay for the parking costs or to set up a free parking area, as well as a €50 monthly bonus for those guards who speak several languages. One of the other requests is for staff to have two weekends off each month.

The strike will take place during one of the busiest times of the year, as thousands fly to and from Barcelona airport during the summer holidays.
