A man in Barcelona has been arrested for allegedly recording conversations with women in public without their knowledge and using the videos to market an online course in ‘seduction techniques’, the police said on Thursday.
The suspect had allegedly made ‘over 300 secretly recorded videos’ of which 239 were posted on his social media accounts. In these clips, women were seen sharing personal information, including details like their nationality, job and daily habits.
According to Spain’s National Police, the man approached women in the streets of Barcelona and filmed them using a hidden camera, all without their consent.
‘He is suspected of involvement in offences against privacy and sexual assault,’ the police said.
Many of the videos clearly showed the women’s faces and were used as promotional material on the suspect’s website. There, users could pay €3,000 to join an online course in ‘seduction techniques’ that also provided access to the unauthorised recordings.
The course allegedly offered theoretical advice on approaching women as well as real-life examples drawn directly from the secretly filmed interactions, the police said.
The investigation began in April after a woman reported that the man had inappropriately touched her and attempted ‘to kiss her twice’ during a conversation.
She later found a video of that encounter online, posted on a major social media platform, where it had already attracted over 700,000 views.
The man was arrested in May and has since been released under judicial supervision while awaiting trial, a police spokesperson confirmed.
