More tourists, but for fewer days

The local tourist season has closed on a positive note. There have been more visitors, although the length of stays has been slightly reduced.

The local accommodation sector (hotels and tourist apartments) has expressed a more satisfactory assessment than the restaurant and trade sector, which has been more cautious.

Hotels have had good occupancy during 2024 with more than 70% up until the start of October, with significant peaks during the strong summer months. From June to August average occupancy was at 86% with an average price increase of 5% in these months and 4% accumulated annually.

However, the trend is that the visitors have been staying less days in the town, not reaching an average of 4 nights and also with a lower average extra spend per customer than in previous years.

The Gremi d’Hostaleria de Sitges (Hospitality Guild of Sitges) has given a positive report of the summer season, in which there is general satisfaction with the total recovery of activity, improving on the data of 2019, pre-Covid.

Where the data has not been so good has been in catering, where a general restraint has been perceived in the average expenditure per customer, a fact that ends up having an impact on the final turnover of this type of business and on the profitability of these companies which have had more expenses.
