Sitges Council promotes employment support for the local hospitality sector

Sitges Town Council is promoting a project to support employment in the local hospitality and catering sector between the months of February and May, with the aim of contributing to cover job vacancies in the sector.

The initiative, organised by the local council’s economic and promotion department together with the Gremi d’Hostaleria de Sitges (Sitges Hospitality Guild), includes a training day aimed at entrepreneurs and hospitality and catering professionals on the 2023 season and socio-labour trends.

A session aimed at workers in the sector and training capsules to provide basic knowledge has also been planned. The programme also includes face-to-face interviews to bring companies and candidates together. In addition to covering job offers, it also seeks to train people who are unemployed or who want to improve their employment situation.

The project aims to reflect and share information with hospitality and restaurant companies about the social and labour needs that have arisen after many people have changed jobs as a result of Covid-19.

The local councillor for economic promotion, Guillem Escolà, said that ‘one of the effects of the pandemic is that many people have changed job sectors to seek greater security’. He said that this has created a lack of staff and for this reason the council has been working on different lines of action, such as the campaign ‘Do you want to work in the hospitality industry?’ which made it possible to cover a large volume of jobs.

The councillor said that ‘tourism is our main economic engine and that is why we share the concern of the sector and, therefore, the need to find joint solutions’.

The project has the commitment of the Sitges Hospitality Guild to hire, according to the profiles, a minimum of 65% of the candidates presented during the two days of the Cara a Cara and who follow the programme of training capsules, to guarantee basic knowledge to work in the sector.

The manager of the Sitges Hospitality Guild, Alejandro Eguía, said that ‘this programme, which we have worked on in collaboration with the Town Council, aims to attract and retain talent with a very clear message: Sitges is a first-class tourist destination with great job opportunities in our sector’.

The programme of activities will begin with the two days related to the hospitality and catering sector and will be supported by the CIES Level 10 Local Employment Service and the Sitges Hospitality Guild, with the support of the local Chamber of Commerce (Garraf delegation), Garraf Regional Council and the rest of the municipalities in the region within the framework of the ‘Pact for Employment’.
