Between 1-2 February, the Mossos d’Esquadra arrested five people allegedly involved in the homophobic attack that took place on New Year’s Eve in Sitges.
Two of the detainees are minors and have been directly handed over to the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office. The other three, aged over 18, are free on bail after testifying before the judge. All five are accused of being the perpetrators of a crime of hate and discrimination, with injuries and public disorder.
The homophobic attack took place in the morning of 1 January in the Carrer Joan Tarrida in Sitges. In total, five victims were attacked by a large group of young people when they were leaving one of the music venues in the area.
Those affected received homophobic insults, physical attacks and also suffered the throwing of blunt objects, as well as glass bottles. The collaboration between the Local Police and the Mossos was essential to identify a total of ten people involved in the events.
The victims suffered injuries of varying degrees and were taken to the Hospital Sant Camil de Ribes, where they had to receive physical and also psychological monitoring during the following weeks. One of the victims suffered a punctured eardrum and another is still suffering from eye problems.
