New Year’s Eve in Sitges sees two fights, with people treated at Sant Camil Hospital

Two fights that took place in the Passeig de la Ribera and the Carrer Joan Tarrida on New Year’s Eve in Sitges ended with people being treated at the Hospital de Sant Camil and others arrested by the Local Police.

The two incidents marred the celebrations in Sitges, which in general were calm and without causing excessive problems for the security forces.

The two fights took place in the early hours of Sunday 1 January. The first occurred at 3.45am in the Passeig de la Ribera, between two groups of young people, and which ended with two minor injuries. In addition to the Local Police and the Mossos d’Esquadra, two ambulances were dispatched to the scene, which took the injured to Sant Camil.

One of those injured was arrested and, after being taken to hospital, was transferred to the police station. During the police intervention, six people were questioned, three of whom were minors.

Not far from the first incident and an hour later, another fight took place, this time in the Carrer Joan Tarrida. It took place at around 5.40am when three adults were assaulted by a group of six teenagers following an argument with insults. The events took place inside a bar and meant that three people had to be taken to Sant Camil. One of them suffered a blunt cut in the left eye and another in the ear.

The Local Police deployed a patrol to identify the perpetrators of the assaults and they ended up arresting one in Carrer Parellades and subsequently two more. They are three minors, who were taken to the police station and who now have criminal proceedings initiated against them.

Police officers took statements from the victims at the Hospital de Sant Camil. They have also received witness statements from two other people.

Apart from these incidents, the rest of the interventions from the Local Police during the night and morning was due to noise outside bars or at private parties, after complaints from neighbours.
