Retiro in Sitges seeks funding to help with refurbishment of its theatre hall

The theatre hall of the Societat Recreativa El Retiro is to undergo an ambitious refurbishment that will allow it to obtain a full activity licence, enabling it to open its doors again and host all kinds of events.

The project envisages going back to its origins, recovering the original appearance designed by Miquel Utrillo in 1916.

This will mean that the arched ceiling of the theatre hall will be visible again, eliminating the false ceiling that is currently there, and which will also improve the acoustics of the building, even more so with current technology.

The project has a budget of around 1,700,000 euros and the Retiro Association itself could assume approximately half of the cost, through a mortgage similar to the one that until this year was paying for work on the car park.

But it would still need around 800,000 euros more from other funders and entities. The Retiro has started conversations and meetings with different administrations and their representatives to be able to source this funding.
