A fire broke out on Monday morning at the Sitges municipal rubbish dump, caused, according to the first assessment, by a cardboard compacting machine.
The fire burned large amounts of paper and cardboard that were inside the machine, but did not have more serious consequences, thanks to the actions of the local fire department.
The fire reportedly started due to technical issues with the cardboard compactor, immediately burning much of the content that had accumulated inside the machine. The fire brigade then scattered all the remaining rubbish from the machine on the ground to ensure that the fire was completely extinguished – especially as the rubbish dump is located near the Garraf natural park.
The rubbish dump was open again on Tuesday.
A causa de l’incendi provocat per una compactadora de cartró de la deixalleria aquesta matinada, ha calgut la intervenció dels @BombersSitges per escampar tot el seu contingut i poder extingir el foc.
