Delay in chiringuitos & beach services causing unrest in Sitges tourism sector

The start of the beach season without the chiringuitos or the services of sun beds and parasols has caused a great deal of unrest in the local tourism sector and, in fact, among Sitges residents in general. At the moment, at the beginning of July, there are only two beach bars open: the Anquines and the Cal dels Gegants (in the Colls), while most are in the preparation phase. This week it is expected that more will start being installed or opened.Of the 21 bars and services that have been put out to tender (after the previous concession had expired), the Sitges Town Council has now awarded 18, almost all of them during June. Most of these are now waiting for materials to construct the bars, or for the sunbeds and other products to arrive. However, this is a process of several weeks and it means that some of the new concessionaires have chosen to rent their materials from those who offered the services in previous years – and therefore they don’t comply with the new modern designs that have been stipulated by the local council in the new beach ‘Use Plan’.The current situation has also come as a surprise to many tourists, according to hotel receptionists and other local tour operators. In fact, hotel swimming pools are registering a higher volume of users than usual, a fact that the managers of these establishments attribute, in part, to the lack of services on the beaches.

Just more noise ! Impossible to live with open windows . For 10-20 people you provoque uncomfort of hundreds of residents .
