Sitges Council approves four more concessionaires for beach services

The governing board of Sitges Town Council held another extraordinary session on Friday to approve four more concessionaires to operate beach services.

The four awards for bars or services were for lots on the beaches of Les Anquines, Terramar and two on Les Botigues de Sitges. Now that they have been approved, the concessionaires can set up their facilities and start working.

This follows the approval of the first six concessionaires last week. ALSO READ: Sitges Council has approved the first six concessionaires for beach services.

The awards for granting beach services follow a process prescribed by law, and the council is still working on the final part of the bidding process for the remaining lots, with the highest scoring applications expected to be decided within the next few days.

The council foresees that around the festival of Sant Joan, 23 June, the vast majority of beach bars and services will have been approved. From then on, each concessionaire can decide when to start installing their facilities and start working.

Sitges to receive its nine Blue Flags in Palamós

The Mayor of Sitges, Aurora Carbonell, and the councillor for beaches, Guillem Escolà, will collect the nine Blue Flags that the town’s beaches have been awarded at an event to be held in Palamós on Friday 17 June.

Sitges is the Catalan town with the highest number of Blue Flags and the fourth across Spain. This is a distinction awarded by the European Foundation for Environmental Education to beaches and ports that meet a number of environmental requirements.

The beaches that have received the award in 2022 are Les Botigues de Sitges, Garraf, Marina d’Aiguadolç, Balmins, Sant Sebastià, La Ribera, L’Estanyol, la Barra and Terramar. In addition, the three marinas of Sitges (Port Ginesta, Garraf and Aiguadolç) also have the Blue Flag. ALSO READ: Sitges beaches awarded the most blue flags in Catalonia.
