Sitges beaches awarded the most blue flags in Catalonia

Terramar, La Barra, L’Estanyol, La Ribera, Sant Sebastià, Balmins, Marina d’Aiguadolç, Garraf and Les Botigues are the nine local beaches with Blue Flags that make Sitges the most distinguished town in Catalonia in this category.

The International Jury Blue Flag 2022 of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) has re-awarded the nine blue flags to the beaches of Sitges, which certify the values of quality, sustainability and services. There were nine of them last year, and five two years ago. In addition, Sitges has obtained a blue flag for the three marinas in the municipality: Port Ginesta, Port de Garraf and Port d’Aiguadolç.

The town’s beaches have also received the Biosphere certification for their sustainability. The Town Council’s Beaches Department is working to renew the ISO 14001 and the EMAS environmental management distinction, which recognises the environmental management of the beaches.

In total, 94 beaches in Catalonia have been awarded the Blue Flag in 2022, of which 26 are in the province of Girona, 32 in Barcelona, 26 in Tarragona and 10 in Terres de l’Ebre.
