Terraces in Sitges return to pre-pandemic dimensions

The extra space allowed for the terraces of Sitges bars and restaurants since the outbreak of the Covid pandemic over two years ago has finally ended.

A decree from the Town Council came into force last Monday, which now annuls the possibility of local bars and restaurants occupying extra space on the street as a compensation for the capacity limitations and losses caused by Covid restrictions. The municipal decree specifies that ‘from now on extensions will not be allowed nor can the adjoining facades be occupied’.

The decision of the council was finally agreed with the hospitality sector. The initial intention of the local government was for the elimination of the extra space to be applied back in February, when there were still capacity limitation measures. But due to complaints from the sector, both parties finally agreed that the measure should come into force in May. Currently, there are no longer any Covid limitations or restrictions inside at bars and restaurants.

The council will still give the opportunity to request expansion to those bars and restaurants that gained outside seating space during the past two years, by studying and evaluating each case in which it could be granted, after increasing the payment for occupation of public roads.
