A new phase in the campaign to promote civic and responsible dog ownership in Sitges has now started. The local police will now sanction with a minimum fine of 60 euros all those people who leave their dog’s excrement on the streets, a sum that can be increased for being a repeat offender or for other factors.
In February, Sitges Town Council launched a campaign with the aim of raising awareness among pet owners regarding the collection of excrement on public roads, as well as to have the pets on leads and that Potentially Dangerous Dogs (GPPs) have a valid license and walk with a muzzle.
One of the most important issues and a major nuisance for citizens is dog excrement on the streets. With the intention of eradicating this habit, the council has begun the sanctioning phase against the abandonment of excrement in public spaces since last Friday.
The sanctioning phase of the campaign, supported by the Catalan Department of Public Health, comes after a few months of informing the public through posters, leaflets and advertising, and from now on will be strengthened thanks to the collaboration of volunteers who will offer information directly on the street to dog owners.
