Covid now falls to low levels in Sitges

The level of Coronavirus infection has dropped significantly in Sitges, just before the start of the Spring and Summer season. Epidemiological data shows the current situation as safe and the number of new positives has reduced to five a day.

A month ago, just after the resurgence following Carnival, an average of 35 new cases were registered in Sitges every day. Now there are just five. Just after Christmas it had reached 125 daily.

It is not the lowest figure since the beginning of the pandemic, as there were 10 days without any positive cases in November 2021, but it is now the lowest incidence in 2022 and one of the lowest in Covid’s two years. New cases are considered mostly mild.

The rebound risk (iEPG)* has still not dropped down to below 100 points, which would put it out of the danger level, but it is still close. It is now at 136 points, down from 3,000 a month ago. In Sant Pere de Ribes it is 170, whilst the Catalan average is 185.

The rate of contagion (RT) is also below the 0.90 recommended level. It is now 0.59 in Sitges and 0.54 in Sant Pere de Ribes. The positivity of the PCR tests and antigen tests reported to the public health department is around 10% in Sitges (there has been a slight rise in recent days) and 7% in Sant Pere de Ribes. The incidence rate (IA) is 229 in Sitges, 321 in Sant Pere de Ribes and 323 for the Catalan average.

*The potential rebound risk (iEPG) measures possible new cases diagnosed over the next 14 days, to evaluate the growth or slowdown in the contagion. It is calculated by multiplying the accumulated incidence rate (IA) and the rate of contagion (RT).
