The number of pupils confined due to Covid in Sitges has almost doubled in two days, reaching 412. In the last 10 days, there have been 45 positive cases among pupils and teachers in the town. This is the largest number of positive cases in a 10-day period for pupils, and the highest number of isolated groups since the pandemic started.
It began last week with 48 students being isolated out of precaution, and the closure of a nursery school after a member of staff tested positive. In the middle of last week, it had increased to 73. This Monday it jumped to 230 and just 48 hours later it was 412. Last January, after the effects of the Christmas festivities, the figure did not reach 200.
The school with most pupils in isolation is Esteve Barrachina, which has 130, followed by Miquel Utrillo with 102, Maria Ossó (88) and Escola Pia (78). There are 13 at Vinyet High School and one at El Cercolet Kindergarten. Both Agnès de Sitges and the Joan Ramon Benaprès school have no confined students and have not registered any positive cases in the last ten days.
Of the 45 positive cases confirmed in the last 10 days, 16 correspond to Miquel Utrillo, 12 to Escola Pia and 7 to both Barrachina and Maria Ossó.
In Sant Pere de Ribes (where there are twice as many schools as in Sitges in the whole municipality), the number of students confined is 136. The most isolated centre is La Riera (38), followed by The Olive Tree (30) Els Costarets (23), Les Roquetes school (20), Santa Eulàlia (13), Bel Air (11) can Puig (2) and Montgròs (1). The highest number of positive cases in the last 10 days has occurred in Santa Eulàlia (10), Les Roquetes school (7) and La Riera (5).
