The rise of Covid confines 73 pupils in Sitges

In the first two months of the new school year, no class had to be confined in Sitges or Sant Pere de Ribes due to Covid. In the last week, however, four centres have had to temporarily close several classes. On Tuesday it was the Escola Pia school, with two classrooms.

The increase in Coronavirus cases is clearly evident in the schools of Sitges and Sant Pere de Ribes, where a new positive case is confirmed every day. There are currently 73 confined pupils in Sitges, of which 48 are from two classrooms at Escola Pia (first and fourth year of ESO) and 25 from the Miquel Utrillo school. One of the classrooms confined last Friday has already returned to activity. In addition to these groups, there is also a student confined at the Esteve Barrachina school for showing a positive test result.

In the last 10 days, there have been three positive cases among pupils at Escola Pia, one at Barrachina and another at the Institut Vinyet. In all cases the positive results have been identified outside of the school grounds and the rapid isolation has prevented the spread among the rest of the classmates.

In addition to the confinements in the Pia and Utrillo schools, the La Formigueta nursery school in Sitges has also been closed for 10 days due to a positive result from an adult. The boys and girls underwent PCR testing at the CAP on Monday to see whether they have been infected.

In Ribes there has been a sharp rise of cases in the Costarets school, where 12 students have tested positive in the last four days. The centre isolated two classrooms early last week, which will return to normal in the coming days. On Tuesday 23 more pupils have been confined from the Santa Eulàlia de les Roquetes school, after two pupils confirmed positive. There has also been another positive case in the Mediterrània school. The five who were previously confined from Can Puig school have already returned to normal activity.
