Sitges schools resisting the recent rise in Covid cases among pupils

The current Covid figures across Catalonia are showing a slight increase in positive cases among school children. This is mostly because those under the age of 12 have not been vaccinated and therefore have a higher risk of contracting the virus, although in most cases it does not have any serious consequences.

In Sitges, however, schools are still resisting this recent rise in positive cases, at least until now, whilst in Sant Pere de Ribes the first classroom isolations have taken place.

At the moment, there are only two pupils confined from the whole population of Sitges: one from the Agnès School and another from Miquel Utrillo. In both cases, there was a positive test result, presumably due to contagion outside the school environment. No other child has been isolated.

Since the beginning of the school year in Sitges, there have been 15 pupils who have tested positive for Covid: two at each of the Esteve Barrachina, Miquel Utrillo and Maria Ossó schools, and three at each of the AgnèsBenaprès and British schools. There have been none at Escola Pia and Vinyet High School, nor at the two municipal kindergartens.

At the same time, in the Costarets de Ribes this week they have sent two whole classrooms home as a result of three positive cases. The three pupils are from different classes, which is why two classrooms have had to be confined. At this centre, there have been nine positives since the beginning of the term.

There have also been five more pupils isolated at the Can Puig school as a precaution, as well as at the El Cargol nursery, and one at the Olive Tree School.
