The size of terraces occupied by bars and restaurants in Sitges – which the Town Council increased in the Spring of 2020 to compensate for the losses and limitations caused by the Covid pandemic – will revert to pre-pandemic dimensions at the end of the year.
The council intends to repeal the decree that allowed for the extension of terrace space in order that they return to their usual sizes. However, according to the town planning councillor, Eduard Terrado, there will be a deadline – likely to be up until the end of this year – before the decree is officially repealed, in order for the establishments to adapt and apply for any necessary licenses.
The measure planned by the local government has not been welcomed by the Sitges Hospitality Association. The organisation has asked for the terrace extensions to be maintained. ‘We would like to keep the terraces, because, although the assessment of the summer is good, we continue to incur losses due to Coronavirus,’ said the association’s president, Oskar Stöber.
