Interior of flats of the first public housing development in Sitges viewed

Officials from Sitges Town Council and representatives from social housing foundations were recently shown the inside of flats being constructed in Sitges as part of the town’s first public housing development.

The visit was to the Marinada buildings located on Carrer de l’Abadessa Maria Lluïsa Dalmau to view one of the 43 flats in this development, scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2022.

The mayor of Sitges, Aurora Carbonell, the councillor for housing, Júlia Vigó, and the councillor for town planning, Eduard Terrado, all attended, together with the patron of the Salas Foundation, Clara Muñoz, and the president of the Noulloc Foundation, Pere Esteve.

The local council is currently building 175 public housing flats in three different developments in Sitges, across a total of 12 buildings distributed in the streets of l’Abadessa Maria Lluïsa de Dalmau, Felip Font i Falp and Lola Aglada.

There will be 43 two and three bedroom flats built on the plot at l’Abadessa Maria Lluïsa in Dalmau (near Can Pei and El Vinyet), named Edificis Marinada, with outdoor spaces, car park and storage room.

The mayor of Sitges, Aurora Carbonell, said, ‘This was one of the priorities of the local government: to promote public housing and offer decent and quality flats at a fair price. This was the challenge and at the same time our commitment, and these developments will serve to ensure that many families and people continue to live in Sitges without having to make disproportionate efforts to pay the rent.’

Monthly rent for the flats in this first development (excluding community expenses) will be between €525 and €660, at €7 per m2, and which is 50% below the market price established in Sitges. Storage rooms and parking spaces are €3.5 per m2.

All the homes in this first development have two or three bedrooms, outdoor spaces, storage room, parking space, and energy certification A. The local councillor for housing, Júlia Vigó, said: ‘Our commitment is that the citizens who benefit from these homes pay a fair rent, thus improving their quality of life.’

The rental period of the homes is five years and they vary in size and number of bedrooms, depending on the development, going from 36.5 m2 to 85.5 m2 (usable).

The council has allocated around 15,000 m2 of residential ground for these developments, which are 100% public and for rent, retaining municipal ownership. Both the construction and the rental are managed by four non-profit foundations, promoters of social housing: Fundación Salas, Fundación Noulloc, Fundación Família i Benestar Social, and Fundación Privada Grup Qualitat.

For further details on how to apply for the housing, you can visit: sitges.cat/serveis/habitatge.

The council also has a service available for people who need help when carrying out the application process online. You can call 93 595 50 94, from Monday to Friday, from 8am to 8 pm. You can also make an appointment at the l’Oficina d’Atenció Ciutadana (OAC) online or by calling 010.
