The local rebound risk of Covid now at a ‘very low’ level

Covid data continues to fall in Sitges and Sant Pere de Ribes and, in some cases, it is at particularly low levels, as is now the case with the rebound risk (iEPG)*, considered the most reliable measure for the spread of the virus. In the last week, only three new cases have been registered in Sant Pere de Ribes, the lowest weekly figure since June 2020, and 12 in Sitges.

The rebound risk in Sitges is currently at 18 points and in Sant Pere de Ribes at 21. Anything below 30 is considered ‘low level’. A month ago it was 77 points in Sitges and 211 in Sant Pere de Ribes, while two months ago it was around 400 in both towns. At the height of the fifth wave, it was close to 6,000 points in Sitges.

Other figures are also good. The incidence rate (IA) – which was the figure used by the Catalan government in the summer to regulate closures and restrictions – is now at 20 points. The Catalan average is 63 points.

The percentage of positive PCR and antigen tests has also reached irrelevant levels, below 1% in both municipalities. The only figure that is within the limits is the rate of contagion (RT), which regulates the speed of the spread of the virus: in Sitges it is at 0.85 and in Sant Pere de Ribes at 1.09. The maximum recommended is 1.

*The potential rebound risk (iEPG) measures possible new cases diagnosed over the next 14 days, to evaluate the growth or slowdown in the contagion. It is calculated by multiplying the accumulated incidence rate (IA) and the rate of contagion (RT).
