The rain pushes the children’s procession for Santa Tecla to Sunday

Another year – and it is almost a tradition – the rain made an appearance at the festival of Santa Tecla again, although the bad weather took its time to arrive. It was not until 6am on Thursday that the downpour started, with the Santa Tecla organisation committee finally announcing at 7.30am that the processions scheduled by children would have to be moved to Sunday 26 September. The time and place have yet to be confirmed.

On Wednesday night, however, the weather held for the launch of the firework display and a party atmosphere afterwards. As has been the norm for weekends and on the eve of public holidays, the promenade and beaches were filled with people eager to party, and there were even attempts to hold correfocs (‘fire-runs’), as you can see in the accompanying image.

Despite the postponement of the children’s processions, the Santa Tecla schedule continued. At 11am on Thursday, the ‘solemne ofici’ in honour of Santa Tecla was held in the church, followed by vermouth and concerts at the Prado and Retiro.

From 7pm, the main procession of the ‘giants’ in honour of Santa Tecla starts on Avinguda Sofia, continuing along Passeig de la Ribera before entering the village via Carrer Nou.
