TEDx to launch in Sitges with five speakers scheduled

The first edition of TEDx Sitges will be held on 6 November and will feature five speakers: journalist John Carlin, scientist Meritxell Teixidó, lawyer Sebastián Lorente, psychologist Lourdes Aldanondo and businessman Raimond Torrens.

TEDx Sitges is a local conference format of the international organisation TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design), which is based on non-profit science research. Each speaker has a maximum of 18 minutes to explain their ideas, which must exclude politics, religion, be scientifically proven and not offend any group.

The entrepreneur and founder of Yoguitos, María Anguita, had the idea of bringing this conference created in the United States to Sitges. ‘During the confinement, I started the procedure to obtain the license to create TEDx Sitges’, says María, who believes that Sitges deserves this type of event because it is ‘an open town’.

The TEDx conferences are recorded and included on TED’s global network, which has more than 61 million followers worldwide. L’Eco de Sitges is one of the media groups collaborating with the initiative locally.

Since 2009, personalities such as Pope Francis, Elon Musk, Sting and Stephen Hawking have all taken part in this project, first created in 2002, which already exists in 130 countries. The most viewed TEDx was that of writer Ken Robinson, with 71 million views.
