The impact of the latest Covid wave has started a continuous decline in Sitges, leaving behind the situation of high alert at the beginning of the month. All but one of the latest figures are down, but are still at levels above the recommended limits.
In the last week there have been 92 positive cases in Sitges, a figure that is still high, and which far exceeds the 20 of the weeks before this latest wave. However, it is an amount well below the 365 detected in the first week of July. In Sant Pere de Ribes, 146 cases have been registered this week.
New cases in Sitges are already below the Catalan average. In the last week, they have increased by 3.50%, while in Catalonia as a whole it has been 5.08%. In Sant Pere de Ribes, growth is still high (5.40%). In the first week of July, however, there had been an increase of 19.79%.
The indicators are also evolving favourably. The ‘rebound risk’ (iEPG)* in Sitges has already dropped below 500 for the first time during this new wave. In one week it has been halved. Still, the 459 level is still a high figure. In Sant Pere de Ribes it also continues to fall, although it is still at 802 points.
The best indicator is the rate of contagion (RT), which in both Sitges (0.57) and Sant Pere de Ribes (0.66) are well below what is set by the World Health Organization (0.90). The percentage of positive PCR and antigen tests also continues to fall, although they are still around 15% in both municipalities, which is three times the recommended figure.
The accumulated incidence rate over 14 days has dropped in Sitges to 784 points, but in Sant Pere de Ribes it is still at 1,228. The Catalan average is 1,136.
*The potential rebound risk (iEPG) measures possible new cases diagnosed over the next 14 days, to evaluate the growth or slowdown in the contagion. It is calculated by multiplying the accumulated incidence rate (IA) and the rate of contagion (RT).
