CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures
The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Tuesday 22 June for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 3,768,691. This is an overall increase of 4,040 against the figure released on Monday, of which 1,799 have occurred in the past 24 hours.
Monday had seen an overall increase of 7,209 over Friday, of which 831 occurred in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered.
There have now been 43,774 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 3,768,691. The figure for the past 7 days is 20,388.
There are currently 2,691 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain, of which 728 are in intensive care. This represents 7.80% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain.
The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Tuesday 22 June is 80,719 – an increase of 30 since Monday.
Two regions (Aragón and La Rioja), as well as Ceuta and Melilla, have reported no deaths in the past seven days. Four other regions have each reported one death in the past seven days.
Increase in infections per region
Of the 1,799 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Tuesday 22 June, the numbers per region are as follows:
- 474 in Catalonia (last 24 hour increase was 144)
- 360 in Madrid (102)
- 150 in the Canary Islands (161)
- 127 in the Basque Country (87)
- 116 in Andalusia (62)
- 107 in Castilla y León (37)
- 71 in the Valencia Region (0)
- 69 in Aragón (25)
- 55 in Extremadura (9)
- 53 in Cantabria (68)
- 46 in Galicia (19)
- 41 in Asturias (45)
- 38 in Navarra (21)
- 36 in the Balearic Islands (17)
- 35 in Murcia (9)
- 14 in La Rioja (23)
- 3 in Castilla La Mancha (1)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain
Latest figures (up to 22 June) show that Spain has received 41,218,602 doses of Covid-19 vaccines and that 36,880,086 jabs have been administered. 23,443,444 people have now received at least one jab, representing 49.4% of the population. 14,745,736 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 31.1% of the population.
