CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Friday 18 June for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 3,757,442. This is an overall increase of 4,214 against the figure released on Thursday, and of which 1,895 have occurred in the past 24 hours.

Thursday had seen an overall increase of 4,197 over Wednesday, of which 1,801 occurred in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered. 

The overall incidence rate has dropped one more point to 95.91 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Thursday it was 96.64 and Wednesday 98.78.

The incidence rate is over 100 in just four regions: Andalusia (179), Navarra (106), La Rioja (153) and the Basque Country (119). 

There have now been 45,512 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 3,757,442. The figure for the past 7 days is 20,688

There are currently 2,856 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain, of which 793 are in intensive care. This represents 8.46% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain. 

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Friday 18 June is 80,652 – an increase of 18 since Thursday. Three regions (La Rioja, Murcia and Extremadura), as well as Ceuta and Melilla, have reported no deaths in the past seven days. Six other regions have each reported one death in the past seven days.

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (up to 18 June) show that Spain has received 39,259,752 doses of Covid-19 vaccines and that 35,412,140 jabs have been administered. 22,684,911 people have now received at least one jab, representing 47.8% of the population. 13,939,564 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 29.4% of the population.
