CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Tuesday 8 June for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 3,711,027. This is an overall increase of 3,504 against the figure released on Monday – the lowest overall increase in 10 months – and of which 1,859 have occurred in the past 24 hours.

Monday had seen an overall increase of 9,536 over Friday, of which 871 occurred in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered. 

The overall incidence rate has dropped another two points to 113.45 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Monday it was 115.32 and Friday 117.22.

The incidence rate is at its highest in La Rioja (212), Andalusia (188) and Basque Country (181). It is under 100 in nine regions: Valencia (39), the Balearic Islands (39), Galicia (51), the Canary Islands (68), Murcia (56), Asturias (70), Extremadura (71), Cantabria (78) and Castilla La Mancha (95).

There have now been 53,831 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 3,711,027. The figure for the past 7 days is 24,140

There are currently 3,880 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain, of which 1,088 are in intensive care. This represents 11.42% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain. 

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Tuesday 8 June is 80,309 – an increase of 73 since Monday.

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (up to 8 June) show that Spain has received 34,715,980 doses of Covid-19 vaccines and that 30,472,862 jabs have been administered. 20,048,174 people have now received at least one jab, representing 42.3% of the population. 11,260,175 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 23.7% of the population.
