CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Tuesday 1 June for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 3,682,778. This is an overall increase of 4,388 against the figure released on Monday, of which 2,151 have occurred in the past 24 hours

Monday had seen an overall increase of 9,732 over Friday, of which 965 occurred in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered. 

The overall incidence rate has dropped by just one point to 120.33 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Monday it was 121.75 and Friday 124.34.

The incidence rate is at its highest in the Basque Country (199), followed by Madrid (173). It is under 100 in eight regions: Valencia (35), the Balearic Islands (38), Galicia (69), the Canary Islands (71), Murcia (73), Asturias (74), Extremadura (77) and Cantabria (83). However, the incidence rate has increased slightly in 11 regions since yesterday’s data.

There have now been 57,098 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 3,682,778. The figure for the past 7 days is 25,954

There are currently 4,655 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain, of which 1,285 are in intensive care. This represents 13.33% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain. 

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths on Tuesday 1 June is now 79,983 – an increase of 30 since Monday.

Increase in infections per region

Of the 2,151 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Tuesday 1 June, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 669 in Madrid (last 24 hour increase was 156)
  • 317 in the Basque Country (237)
  • 274 in Castilla y León (77)
  • 159 in Andalusia (81)
  • 134 in Aragón (50)
  • 75 in the Canary Islands (82)
  • 74 in Asturias (28)
  • 65 in Navarra (50)
  • 55 in Catalonia (45)
  • 47 in Murcia (2) 
  • 43 in Extremadura (43)
  • 43 in La Rioja (24)
  • 33 in Cantabria (37)
  • 25 in Galicia (25)
  • 19 in the Balearic Islands (7)
  • in the Valencia Region (3)
  • in Castilla La Mancha (13) 
  • 5 in Ceuta (1)
  • 10 in Melilla (4)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (up to 1 June) show that Spain has received 30,127,690 doses of Covid-19 vaccines and that 27,119,733 jabs have been administered. 18,178,604 people have now received at least one jab, representing 38.3% of the population. 9,405,245 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 19.8% of the population.
