CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Monday 31 May for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 3,678,390. This is an overall increase of 9,732 against the figure released on Friday, of which 965 have occurred in the past 24 hours. These are the lowest weekend figures since last July.

Friday had seen an overall increase of 5,482 over Thursday, of which 2,517 occurred in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered. 

The overall incidence rate has dropped another three points to 121.75 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Friday it was 124.34 and Thursday 125.02.

The incidence rate is at its highest in the Basque Country (196), followed by Madrid (178). It is under 100 in eight regions: Valencia (34), the Balearic Islands (37), Galicia (69), Asturias (71), the Canary Islands (73), Murcia (75), Extremadura (75) and Cantabria (84). 

There have now been 57,772 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 3,678,390. The figure for the past 7 days is 26,083

There are currently 4,858 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain, of which 1,347 are in intensive care. This represents 13.98% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain. 

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths on Monday 31 May is now 79,953 – an increase of 48 since Friday.

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (up to 31 May) show that Spain has received 28,024,880 doses of Covid-19 vaccines and that 26,827,637 jabs have been administered. 18,032,417 people have now received at least one jab, representing 38% of the population. 9,221,285 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 19.4% of the population.
