The number of citizens fined by the police for non-compliance related to health measures against Covid-19 has dropped dramatically in the last two weeks, and which was to be expected coinciding with the end of the State of Alarm and the nighttime curfew in Catalonia.
Since the curfew was introduced in October 2020, the local police in Sitges have registered a total of 1,371 incidents for non-compliance with the measures imposed under the State of Alarm to control the spread of Covid-19. The vast majority of incidents were at night, for breaching the nighttime curfew from 10pm until 6am, mostly during the weekends and in particular on Saturday nights.
This past week, the local police have only registered four cases related to current breaches. Two incidents occurred last Thursday afternoon, and two on Friday night. The figures contrast with the week from 16-22 November, when a total of 111 cases were lodged, or the week from 11-17 January, when 90 people were sanctioned.
More measures relaxed
From 24 May bars and restaurants can now be open from 6am until midnight. There is no capacity limit for outdoors, other than a minimum distance of two metres for each table on terraces. There is a maximum indoor capacity of 50%. The maximum number of people per table must be six.
Social gatherings have been expanded to a maximum of 10 people, in any setting.
Shops and shopping malls can open at 50% capacity from 6am to 10pm. Cultural venues can open at 70% capacity with at most 1,000 people indoors or 3,000 outdoors or inside if the facilities are adequately ventilated. Attendees must remain seated.
Authorities continue to urge people to limit their social interactions and travel beyond their towns or cities of residence as well as to work from home when possible.
