Local schools are keeping Covid-19 at bay

Schools in Sitges and Sant Pere de Ribes have started the last term of the school year with the risk of Covid-19 under control. Since students returned to school after the Easter holidays, only two classrooms, one from the Escola Pia in Sitges and the other from Can Puig in Ribes, have had to be confined as a precaution.

In January, amidst a full third wave of the pandemic and with the epidemiological data soaring, schools had experienced their most critical moment. At the end of January there were almost 300 students confined from the two municipalities: 129 from Sitges, 118 from Ribes and 56 from Les Roquetes.

The current scenario is radically different. Without signs of a fourth wave and with teaching staff vaccinated, the education centres are operating with relative normality and with a minimal incidence of the virus. At present, the group confined from the Can Puig school includes 24 students and two teachers. There are also three students confined for having been in contact with someone who had tested positive: two at the Escola Pia and one at the Santa Eulàlia school in Les Roquetes.
