Vaccinations against Covid-19 are finally progressing at a faster pace, after weeks of being excessively slow. Last week 817 first doses were administered to residents of Sitges and 913 for Sant Pere de Ribes. It is more than double the amount of the highest previous week.
The arrival in Catalonia of an extensive supply of vaccines has accelerated the number of inoculations throughout the region – including in Sitges and Sant Pere de Ribes. Previously, the week that had seen the highest number of doses administered had been the last week of February (when 443 jabs were given in Sitges and 415 in Sant Pere de Ribes). Last week’s activity has doubled these figures.
Currently, there are 3,194 people in Sitges who have received a first dose, representing 11.01% of the population, whilst 1,399 have now received two jabs and are immunised. In Sant Pere de Ribes, a total of 3,309 first doses have been given (10.77% of the population) and 1,403 people have received two jabs.
The Sitges Town Council has prepared the El Casal de la Gent Gran de Pau Casals to be used as a vaccination centre, once the Catalan Health Department confirms the date for it to be used. Currently, most vaccinations are being done at the CAP [Centre d’Atenció Primaria, the local healthcare centre], although those who are aged between 60 and 65 years old (and who have begun to receive the first dose last week), are generally having to travel outside of Sitges to receive the vaccine.
