Start of Easter week brings rise in sanctions for breaking Covid restrictions

Local police have filed a total of 56 sanctions for non-compliance of Covid-19 restrictions in the past week – 46 of which occurred between Friday and Sunday.

The weekend, which coincided with the beginning of the Easter week, brought a notable increase in sanctions when compared to the 15 recorded from the previous week .

Of the 56 sanctions registered, the majority of infringements took place at night – a total of 53. The remaining three sanctions took place during the afternoon.

In spite of these high numbers, last week took off to a quiet start – with only two sanctions registered on Monday night. On the other hand, there were no reports of infringements on Tuesday. On Wednesday, there were a total of five sanctions, all during the night, and on Thursday a total of two – with one in the afternoon, and the other at night.

During the weekend, and coinciding with the first days of Easter, the number of sanctions began to increase. On Friday, 25 were registered – all taking place during the night. On Saturday, local police recorded 16 – of which 15 occurred at night, while the other infringement took place during the afternoon. On Palm Sunday, a total of five sanctions were registered, four at night and one in the afternoon.
