All clubs have finally now played at least one match in La Liga’s new season – with Lionel Messi scoring in his first game since he tried to leave Barcelona – yet then finally accepting that he would have to see out the final year of his contract.
New Barça coach Ronald Koeman began his campaign with a 4-0 defeat of Villarreal on Sunday.

Messi scored a penalty 10 minutes before half-time. An own goal from Pau Torres also added to two early goals from Barça’s 17-year-old Ansu Fati.
Meanwhile Luis Suarez, whose emotional departure from Barça was only confirmed last Thursday, marked his Atletico Madrid debut by scoring two goals in a 6-1 defeat of Granada.
