CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest figures

The latest official figures released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Monday 1 June show 27,127 Coronavirus-related deaths in Spain – meaning no increase in the past 24 hours. There have now been 35 deaths in the past 7 days.

Sunday’s figures had shown an increase of in 24 hours and 39 deaths in the past 7 days. Saturday had been an increase of 4 deaths in 24 hours – and 43 deaths over 7 days.

The official figure released on Monday 1 June for the total number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus only through a PCR test is now 239,638 – an increase of 71 over Sunday – the lowest daily increase since 5 March.

Out of the 71 new confirmed cases, 18 are in Madrid, 16 in Catalonia and 11 in Castilla y León.

Seven regions (Cantabria, ExtremaduraGalicia, Murcia, the Basque Country, La Rioja and Melilla) have not registered any new infections in the past 24 hours.

Sunday’s figure for the increase of infections only through PCR testing was 96 over Saturday. Saturday’s figure had been 271 over Friday. Friday had been 187.

The current peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period in Spain was on 31 March, when 9,222 new cases were registered (including from PCR and antibody).

70% of Spanish population now in Phase Two

From today, 70% of the Spanish population is now in Phase Two of Spain’s de-escalation of lockdown restrictions. Some islands in the Canary Islands and Formentera in the Balearic Islands have moved to Phase Three.

Pedro Sánchez to seek final extension to ‘state of alarm’

In a televised address on Sunday 31 May, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced that he will be seeking a final extension of the ‘state of alarm’ until 22 June, but that it would be ‘different and much lighter’.
