The international reggae festival of Rototom Sunsplash kicks off in Benicàssim (in Castellón) from 16-22 August.
With an extraordinary choice of music and an environmental commitment to Stand Up For Earth, 2019 marks Rototom’s 10th year in Spain.
This year the main stage hosts live shows from some of Jamaica’s biggest artists. It’s the place to see Grammy-winning son of Bob, Ziggy Marley, cultural reggae’s 21st century heir-apparent Chronixx, highly creative dancehall ‘deejay’ Busy Signal, and first family of modern reggae Morgan Heritage.
Also on the main stage are veteran harmony groups Israel Vibration, and Culture featuring Kenyatta Hill, versatile Rasta vocalist Queen Ifrica, deep-voiced cultural singer Bushman, and groundbreaking, trendsetting first lady of reggae song, Marcia Griffiths.
Reggae legends celebrating milestone anniversaries, revivals of classic reggae movie soundtracks, a wealth of female empowerment, and an international gathering at three sound system areas … Rototom 2019 offers all this and much more.
The Rototom Sunsplash festival is also stamping ‘plastic free‘ on its 2019 edition, with which it takes another firm step in its commitment to the environment.
‘We do not want a planet drowned in plastic, which our ecosystem is unable to digest; and that is why we have expanded the number of actions and initiatives to declare the Rototom Sunsplash a plastic free festival,’ the organisers have said.
Rototom Sunsplash is also implementing a system to reduce food waste. Each establishment in the festival’s restaurant areas may donate at the end of the edition their surplus of non-perishable products to the food bank – and this petition is also extended to the festival’s public in the campsite. Everything collected will be distributed free of charge to NGOs that serve people in need in the province.
