Madrid’s ‘Inverfest’ Winter Festival returns

Returning for its fifth edition in 2019, Inverfest is Madrid’s winter cultural festival and features concerts, film screenings and poetry across almost a month from 10 January.

Over 40 concerts are held at the Teatro Circo Price, the Teatro Barceló and Sala El Sol, and the range of genres on the programme includes flamenco, pop, opera and classical.

Some of the leading names on Spain’s music scene take part such as Kiko Morente, Rodrigo Cuevas, Revolver and Farruquito, while among the international acts on the bill are Portuguese singer-songwriter Dulce Pontes, English rock band Jim Jones and The Righteous Mind, and Cuban guitarist and singer Pablo Milanes.

Opening the programme at this year’s Inverfest is Spanish musician Rodridgo Cuevas.

Also on the programme is ‘A Bowie Celebration’, starring some of the musicians who worked with David Bowie down the years, and the Inverfest New Rockers section, which is aimed at music-loving families with performances by groups like Petit Pop and The Pinker Tones.

The La Nevera Film Fest is a series of screenings that brings together film and music, and each event includes an appearance by special guests and a DJ set that complements the theme of the main feature.

Among the documentaries being shown this year are Oasis: Supersonic, telling the story of the British band, and Control, a biography of Ian Curtis, the late lead singer of Joy Division.

Inververso is the part of the festival dedicated to poetry, which this year is divided into two sessions with poets from the current literary panorama who will perform, exchange ideas and create a dialogue between different disciplines.
