10 years of Barcelona’s international comedy festival

The multilingual Festival Internacional de Comedia de Barcelona (aka FIC BCN) kicks off in Barcelona on 12 November.

This year FIC BCN celebrates its 10th anniversary, which means organisers have gone even further than usual to create a laughter-filled programme.

Tom Stade
Tom Stade appears in Barcelona on 17 November

Top of the bill is Tom Stade, a Canadian comedian now based in the UK, who’s following up an acclaimed tour in his adopted country last year and a jaunt to the 2018 Edinburgh Fringe Festival with a new show intriguingly entitled ‘I Swear To…’ – where he tries to work out how to deal with a world full of feelings and FaceTime.

Stade is set to tour this show next year in Britain and Ireland so don’t miss your chance to see it first.

Also appearing at FIC BCN 2018 is English comedian Trevor Lock, who hosts two versions of his hit ‘Community Circle’, one in English and the other in Spanish.

And what is the Community Circle?

An intimate, joyful show that sees Lock put himself at the heart of his audience for interaction, participation, and an exchange of ideas and jokes, which means that each show is different but always funny.

What’s more, if you fancy trying your hand at comedy or are just looking for a new challenge that will fill you simultaneously with fear and elation, Trevor Lock is also running two Comedy Workshops (again one in English and one in Spanish) that teaches some of the techniques he uses to create his unique shows.

Another undoubted highlight will be the Funniest FICer Competition. Running since 2012, this is the seventh edition of the amateur stand-up competition that sees participants perform what they hope is their funniest 7 minutes of material; that’s all they need to be one of the 9 qualifiers in the big final on 24 November and the chance to be crowned the city’s Funniest FICer.

Tom Stade: 17 November, 9pm, Centre Artesà Tradicionarius (Travessia de Sant Antoni, 6-8). €15-€20.

Trevor Lock: English show: 25 November, 9pm, Las Cuevas de los Rajahs (C/ d’en Gignàs, 2). Spanish show: 23 November, 9pm, Las Cuevas de los Rajahs. See website below for special Black Friday ticket offers! For details of Comedy Workshops, click here.

BCN’s Funniest FICer: 1st Heat – 13 November, Las Cuevas de los Rajahs; 2nd Heat – 15 November, Flaherty’s; 3rd Heat – 20 November, Las Cuevas de los Rajahs; Final – 24 November, Casa de Murcia.
